The police are holding three men and a woman for questioning over the hit-and-run incident that occurred last Saturday in Għajnsielem, resulting in the death of a 42-year-old man from Xewkija, sources said yesterday.

The four are being interrogated after a truck was found in a cattle farm in Xewkija belonging to one of the men being questioned.

The police were led to the farm after they received an anonymous tip. There they came across a truck which is suspected to have been involved in the incident.

The sources said the truck seemed to have been covered in dust to give the impression that it had been idle for quite a while. Forensic experts have lifted swabs off the vehicle.

The incident, which occurred near the former heliport in Mġarr Road, left Joe Grima of Xewkija dead. Mr Grima was walking next to his wife at about 1.30 p.m. when a male relative emerged from car and the two men ended up in a fight in the middle of the road.

That was when Mr Grima was hit by a vehicle.

The victim was rushed to the Gozo General Hospital where he died soon after. An autopsy held last Monday confirmed that Mr Grima had died of injuries compatible with those sustained when someone is run over.
