Teams from the Athleta Basketball Club will take centre stage on Sunday at the basketball pavilion in Ta' Qali. As part of a new initiative launched by the Malta Basketball Association (MBA) this season, this Sunday has been tagged Athleta basketball day as the four games in programme will involve four of the eight Athleta teams taking part in various competitions.

Athleta's U-15 teams and their men's and women's senior sides will be in action on Sunday.

Athleta Basketball Club, formerly Pembroke Athleta, was founded in 1970 by the members of the Malta Hiking and Camping Association. In their early years, Athleta competed under the name of Ignis, winning their first league title in 1986/87.

In the past 11 years, Athleta's men's team, now playing under the name of Compleet IS SW, won 29 titles, including six championships.

In a statement, the MBA and Athleta Basketball Club encouraged former players and ex-committee members to attend Sunday's basketball matches.
