A Serbian was yesterday remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring his former Maltese girlfriend at her house where they lived together.

Goran Kurajic a 34-year-old construction worker, denied causing grievous bodily harm, causing damage to property and threatening her.

Mr Kurajic allegedly injured his former girlfriend during an argument at her home in Iklin on Sunday. Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia told the court they are investigating Mr Kurajic because they suspect he is not the person he is claiming to be.

Taking into consideration the fact that Mr Kurajic knows where his former girlfriend and her family live, Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani remanded him in custody because of the fear he might approach witnesses.
