Industry is still in a state of confusion and uncertainty over the water and electricity rates because the new tariffs have not yet been officially published, the Federation of Industry said today.
“Numerous enquiries for clarifications have been made by the FOI to the government, but information received so far is either incomplete or confusing,” the federation complained.
It said companies need to be officially informed of the exact workings and rates so that these can be professionally factored in the companies’ cost structures.
The current situation was just adding insult to injury, by causing administrative problems, the FOI said. It was also a classic case where the government did not adopt the much publicised EU Better Regulation principles, in the sense, that the tariffs were made to apply retroactively from October 1, without any economic impact assessment and no official information by Enemalta and/or the regulator to explain the technical details.
