Malta was managing to overcome the challenges the international financial crisis had brought about, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said yesterday.

Addressing a crowd at the Nationalist Party's annual Fruit and Vegetable fair in Ta' Qali, Dr Gonzi said the main objective of the PN government was that of generating wealth. The budget had placed strong emphasis on the environment and several measures were based on the polluter-pays principle.

At the same time, the agriculture sector was being assisted, both directly by the government and through European Union funds, Dr Gonzi said.
