KSU renews call for University Trust Fund
The KSU has urged the university to make the campus more eco-friendly.
The University Students' Council (KSU) has expressed disappointed that its suggestion for the creation of a Trust Fund to offer incentives for private investment at the University was not mentioned in the budget document. It said this mechanism would allow the university to engage itself in large-scale projects and improve the services it already offered, especially in an era where competition was increasing.
The council said it appreciated the increase of €4.4 million in the university budget and the investment in the new Faculty of ICT, and the investment of €1.5m for research and the library in the University of Malta.
"Although KSU notes that such actions reflect the change in focus from quantity to quality in the University, KSU hopes such investments will increase even further in the coming years to provide present and future students with more opportunities, locally, thus making the University of Malta the local institution synonymous with research," the council said.
KSU urged the University of Malta to make the campus more eco-friendly by investing more in renewable energy.
It said the increases in the prices of water, electricity and fuel would raise costs for students, particularly those living alone such as Gozitan students living in Malta.

I agree with what KSU said especially the high increase in water and electricity will make the Lm 50 per month for Gozitans will not compensate for the extra cost that faces the gozitan university students. I appreciate that the government did a lot in the last years for education, but having high increase in the bills will increase the pressure and financial stress for gozitan youths studying or working in Malta
