Surgeon's experience should not be lost (2)
The height of impossibility is that of a pink elephant hanging by his trunk from a daisy over Dingli Cliffs.
Surely the height of stupidity and bureaucracy is a civil service regulation (that should have been removed long ago) that does not allow a top orthopaedic surgeon, like Mr Carmel Sciberras, to practise when hundreds of people are suffering and waiting for years to be seen to.
Mr Sciberras should be allowed to return to work immediately, with no strings attached.
If the civil service is looking at ways to reinstate this much needed surgeon, they ought to do it quickly so as to help alleviate the pain of arthritic knees and hips.

Not to mention the fact that:
1)Mr. Sciberras is the ONLY hand surgeon Malta has, unless one of the younger specialists has been trained SPECIFICALLY in hand surgery. To my knowledge, none of them are! I had the utmost pleasure of assisting Mr. Sciberras a few times on very delicate hand operations-it was like seeing an artist create a work of art. Mr. Sciberras may be 'old' by Civil Servant standards, but he sure is an excellent surgeon, with many years of experience.
2) Mr. Sciberras is an EXCELLENT teacher. There has been much talk and promises made about creating means for my colleagues to specialise in Malta, rather than up and leave (as many of us have done!) Working with Mr. Sciberras,I saw in him a quality that's rarely seen (sadly) in the medical profession nowadays: an innate passion for teaching, and the right amount of patience to go with it! And this MANY YEARS before the new contracts for medical professionals were issued by government.
May I join all the rest in saying: Re-instate Mr.Sciberras IMMAEDIATELY, if he so wishes. The Department of Orthopaedics, numerous patients, and your Orthopaedic trainees will ALL benefit!!
