i am very hurt by the way people are attacking by saying that i'm an animal hater . the letter was longer but for some reason it had parts missing like dogs drinking sea water and besides i'm so sorry for their suffering but cannot afford to take each animal to a private vet because it's not simoply a check up and what then? where are we going to keep them if we are ourselves working and out most of the time who's going to mind these creatures . now we are justifying without reasoning.ms. peresso fiorentino is talking without knowing the more damage you could do to an animal mayber she has cares at homre and besides it's more cruel to leave an anomal alone and sick!!1

Ms Borg - So you really do think that the Government should round up all the strays. And then what Ms Borg?? Have them killed? We all know what happens at the S.P.C.A when space runs out and this shelter is co-funded by the Government..

The only way the Government can pull its weight is by educating people that pets are to keep forever and not when it suits them. Secondly, it should help the already existing sanctuaries which are run by true animal lovers with the upkeep of the premises and helping out with the much needed staff so that people like Rennie will not end up the way he did..

Yes Ms Borg, why shouldn't you like a good christian citizen take an injured dog to the vet?
An injured dog is not going to bite your hand off you know. There are ways and means how one can catch a dog and take him to the vet..

Sadly, you give me the impression that you only see stray dogs as a nuisance and just want them away from your neighbourhood no matter what.

dear ms.isabella fiorentino peresso, i am not surprised that some people like you talk this way because there's no solution for us citizens, once i even called many times for a dog who ran outside with a vandalised missing limb. all calls were the same telling us to bring the dogs ourselves you can imagine when a dog is injured how dangerous he might be. would you suggest some solution yourself like this man who ended in jail that's the solution taking dogs in our homes instead the authorities finance homes and clinics for these poor animals, because after all even a large number of cats too are suffering too.

sure its the authorities job to take care of the stray dogs problem!!! me and rennie scicluna we are losing our health to desperately help the poor homeless dogs, but look what position rennie ended up in!! He's in jail cos he gave his love and life to the dogs... me and rennie we r gonna keep on fighting for the best of homeless dogs.

Dear Ms Borg,
Instead of dumping the "problem" on the authorities, why don't you come up with a viable solution?
As Mr Farrugia rightly pointed out, these strays are a result of your neighbours' selfish and cruel deeds by dumping these dogs onto the streets. Remember, it's no fault of theirs to be out on the streets, they never asked to be there.

Dear Ms. Borg. Neutering is the answer. After all dogs do not choose to be stray, rest assured that they would prefer to live happily in a home, unfortunately they love us to much. Strays are just dogs that have been abandoned out of some sort of cruelty and are doing their best to live. If you were hungry and starving on the streets, even you would scrap in the bin to find food. As for dirtying the streets, they do not. Strays usually train themselves to do their thing in areas which are unhabited, like fields etc. Maybe a bit of humanity (if one can call it that) is called for here.

Sure the authorities are doing excellent work.....
read about how they are helping Rennie in this same newspaper!
They pay $$$ for consultants to draw fancy reports, litter our letterbox with colourful propaganda about how the Ministry is so caring and avantgarde and other bla bla
and then the dedicated persons who try to 'dirty' their hands to tackle a problem much bigger than them are thrown into prision by the same double-faced authorities!

@ Ms Connie Borg - I agree partially with you. Indeed, there should not be stray dogs at all.

However, stray dogs come about due to your 'neighbour's' negligence and cruelty. If it had not been for this, there would not be strays at all, and you would have needed to write this letter.

More professionally-run and -approved dog shelters should be encouraged - rather than sending them to prison, as is the case with Rennie of Bahar ic-Caghaq - and local councils should give a good donation per dog that is rounded up by officials. Dogs would then be pounded, neutered and a lot of PR is done towards the possibility of adoption.

Of course, there would be more adoptions of this sort if breeding of so-called pedigrees had to be controlled and taxed.

That, Ms Borg, would be a good solution. Would be.
