Suspended jail term

Two Sicilians yesterday received suspended jail terms after admitting to heroin possession in circumstances denoting it was not for their exclusive use.

Giuseppe Puglisi, 45, also admitted to trying to steal a handbag and Sandro Lo Presti, 34, admitted to being an accomplice in the attempted theft. The incident took place at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday in The Strand, Gżira. The drugs were found at their residence in Swieqi.

After taking into consideration their early guilty plea, Magistrate Anthony Vella handed down a two-year jail term suspended for four years.

Police Inspector Keith Arnaud prosecuted.

Lawyer Noel Bianco was defence counsel.
