A 21-year-old man was jailed for seven months for stealing a car mirror after a court took into account his list of scrapes with the law.
Stephen Schembri from Marsa was found guilty of stealing the side mirror of a car in Ħamrun on January 6, 2002, handling stolen property, committing a crime within the operative period of a probation order and relapsing.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Miriam Hayman, said it considered the fact that, although Mr Schembri had at first denied the charges, in his statement to the police he eventually admitted to taking the car accessory.
The magistrate also highlighted the fact that the man had been given many chances to reform himself but failed to take advantage of the opportunities.
Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.
