Black exhaust fumes still a problem
I would like to praise the government for its environmental incentives incorporated in the budget. I would, however, like to know how and when the present cars which are still emitting clouds of fumes will be removed from the roads. The SMS alert scheme introduced by the ADT does not seem to be solving the problem.
I would also like to ask another question which I think many people are presently asking: For an average home, is it worth installing a photovoltaic system or a solar panel system?

RE ".......not enough if you have electrical appliances like electric cooker, microwave oven, toaster....."
But we are not talking here about supplying ALL your electricity from PV ! The good thing is that if, say, you are away during the daytime you will be feeding your spare electricity into the grid and gaining electricity units. Then when you use electricity during the evening you will get them back (so to speak) - the net effect is that your overall consumption in units of energy will be less and your electricity bill will be lower...

Good job re solar water heater, but 1kw photovoltaic unit is not enough if you have electrical appliances like electric cooker, microwave oven, toaster, washing machine, tumble dryer for those who do not have access to roof, etc. especially if several appliances have to be on at the same time. You will need much more than a 1kw panel.
Another problem is that even with the refund, not many families can afford to have such an installation.

Oy Oy ! !!
I Galea dixit: "It will cost you somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 euros"
EH?
I have just ordered A 1 kilowatt PV array and it will cost 7,000 Eur, less 3000 eur refund ( think I acted fast enough after the budget announcement to be among the first 200) .
I have calculated the return from decrease in my electricity bill equivalent to a interest rate of around 8 - 9% and a pay back time of of 5 - 7 years - safer than putting money in a bank nowadays!
My solar water heater is already saving me a lot of $$$$ too

It will cost you somewhere between 20,000 and 30,000 euros for the average home apart from maintenance with a lifetime expectancy of some 20 years.
Calculate the loss in interests on the capital and the sum spent and you will see that you will never get back your investment.

What do you mean by solar panel system?
As to photovoltaic, it is an extremely expensive system to install and and maintain therefore you will never see a return on your outlay, so it can hardly be referred to as an "investment".
