Rowing challenge yields €90,000 for charity

The Puttinu Cares Children's Cancer Support Group and Beyond the Moon programme have received €91,533 from a fund-raising rowing challenge between Sicily and Malta that took place in June.

The Vodafone Malta Foundation, which supported the event, said the money will go towards the organisation and payment of holidays for terminally ill children and their parents, to alleviate the hardships they endure.

Foundation chairman Gemma Mifsud Bonnici presented the money to Sandra Chetcuti, on behalf of Beyond the Moon, and medical consultant Victor Calvagna, for Puttinu Cares.

They all praised Daniel Abela, a marketing consultant who rowed for 26 hours over almost three days, to raise money.
