A drop in Vodafone's level of WiMAX connections featured in the latest Malta Communications Authority (MCA) market review was the result of wrong information given to the regulator by the company and not a real slump in sales, the service provider has said.
The MCA reported that Vodafone had 1,876 WiMax connections in 2007, which went up to 2,887 between January and March and then down to 2,038 between April and June. Joseph Muscat, head of Mobile Plus at Vodafone, said the correct data, which has now been forwarded to MCA, is 949 connections in 2007, 1,717 in the first quarter and 2,042 in the second quarter.
Fixed WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is a high-speed wireless broadband and Voice over IP services to home and business consumers and connecting multiple internet users.
