Maltese filmmaker Clifford Borg-Marks’s feature-length documentary “Sinews” has won an honourable mention at the prestigious 26th Sport Movies & TV International Festival held in Milan under the auspices of the Federation Internationale Cinema Television Sportifs (FICTS).

Mr Borg-Marks, who produced and directed the film, received his award from Prof. Franco Ascani, President of FICTS, in the presence of Dick Fosbury, President of the World Olympians Association and numerous other sport and media personalities, on Wednesday. This was Mr Borg-Marks’s second success at this festival where, in 2005, he won a Garland of Honour for “The Hobby”, his documentary on sport table football.

Mr Borg-Marks’s new film focuses on China’s sport through the lens of its sport movies along the ages. It contains footage from about 20 Chinese sport movies as well as interviews with veteran filmmakers and former athletes. These include swimmer Mu Xiangxiong, the first Chinese person ever to break a world record (in 1958), and table tennis player Qiu Zhonghui, the first Chinese woman to become world champion in any sport (in 1961).

“Sinews” was produced by Hong Kong-based EastZone Films Ltd. Mr Borg-Marks hails originally from Birkirkara and now resides in Hong Kong.
