The Malta Environment and Planning Authority said it issued 104 stop and enforcement notices last month - 73 in Malta and 31 in Gozo and closed 81 enforcement cases - 54 in Malta and 27 in Gozo. A total of 53 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit.

Another 26 cases were resolved since owners decided to remove the illegal development and comply with the enforcement notice. One case was withdrawn by MEPA.

The authority said that in the same period it determined 622 applications and received 484 new applications. The net pending caseload at the end of the month was 4,541.

It also processed 139 notifications of development which did not require a formal application.
