Generation fault causes widespread power cut
A generation fault caused a widespread power cut in the central part of Malta this morning but power was restored by 11.50 a.m. Enemalta said.
It said the fault developed at 10.40 a.m. and the power supply was cut due to load shedding in Attard, San Gwann, Mriehel, Sta. Venera, Qormi, Birkirkarara, St. Julian's, Swieqi, parts of Msida and Gzira. Engineers worked quickly to restore power to all localities before noon.

I.M.Dingli,
do not allude yourself, the state of the art power station you are on about has most of its switchgear and instrumentation which have become obsolete. Its a shame that the people out there do not know know what is really going on within Enemalta. Do not believe what politicians say about the infrastructure of Enemalta, they are fed a lot of bull from the same people who were politically appointed by them. We employees are always given the blame for our incompetence, but if we were to be given the chance to talk about the real situation, the people out there would be in for a big surprise.

Why is it that everyone keeps blaming the PM & the Finance minister for the hefty & exaggerated rise in the utility bills? They never had a say in it. All the merit shoud go to minister Dr. Austere Gatt as he was the one that DICTATED what will be done. For example, I personally heard the PM on local TV state that the new tariffs would not be introduced on 1st October, asserting (the PM) that he had already informed MCESD. This was during the debate between Joseph & Lawrence. Yet Dr.Gatt promptly confirmed what he had previously dictated, that 1st October would be the black Wednesday of 2008. Whoever advised him (Dr.Gatt) to buy as much crude oil as possible when the price was past the $130 mark, prophesising that it would go up to $200, surely made the biggest mistake of his life. If he had bided his time as other countries did he would have bought at a much cheaper price - half the price! So until the costly supply of oil runs out we have perforce to foot the bill. So get moving & put up special, energy-guzzling Xmas decorations this year to begin with.

Power cuts seem to be on the increase these days. Today it was the central part of Malta, yesterday it was at Mosta (Technopark included). Wouldn't be surprised if this is the latest brainwave from Enemalta to reduce electricity consumption.
