I have been reading about several controversial issues related to transport services in recent copies of The Times.
I remember while living in the UK that when Tony Blair faced public outcry over some issue, he would resort to calming the situation by forming various committees and enquiries to look into the problems. This had the wonderful effect of calming the immediate storm. However, Mr Blair, being a shrewd politician, also knew that in time the public would forget about the issues as new problems emerged. This invariably was the case.
Here in Malta there is evidence that this disease is catching. About six weeks ago we (the public) were invited to air our views and suggestions regarding public transport. I faithfully spent time and forwarded my many various comments. I received a reply 10 days later thanking me for my constructive comments and asking my permission to include them on their website.
However, I now suspect this was another Blair tactic to appease us. I have since not heard or read anything regarding this survey nor about any invitation to the public to view comments on the website.
Similarly, regarding vehicle emissions, Daniela Borg Mizzi, public relations manager at the ADT, appeased us in June by stating that she had taken all the adverse comments on board and would be treating the issue with the utmost priority.
Has anybody been updated? If so I apologise as I must have missed it!
Anyway, the many letters I read in The Times are very encouraging as my fellow Maltese inhabitants (yes I know, I am of Scottish origin) are also very much aware of these issues.
I appeal to them all to persist in their letters which will eventually be taken with the seriousness they merit.
