Zammit joins Borg into knock-out stage

Simon Zammit joined Alex Borg in the last 64 of the 2008 IBSF World Championships in Austria after qualifying from Group A.

Zammit beat George Louca, of Cyprus, 4-1 including breaks of 67 and 57 in yesterday's match thus securing the third place in his group behind James Wattana and Kirk Stevens.

The Maltese player actually made sure of a place in the knock-out stage on Sunday evening when he beat Manuel Urban, of Austria, 4-0.

Borg finished second in Group H behind Pankaj Advani, of India. Borg was in action yesterday in his remaining qualifier and easily saw off Robert Trinbacher, of Switzerland, 4-0. He had a break of 90 in the last frame.

Meanwhile, Tony Mifsud failed to progress in the Masters event despite winning his last match 3-0 against Austria's Alexander Krnausek. Mifsud finished fifth in Group E with only the top four going through.

The first matches from the knock-out stages in all categories get underway this morning.
