'Difficult' search for missing diver continues

Divers from the Civil Protection Department and the AFM have resumed their search for an experienced British diver missing off Xatt l-Ahmar in Gozo since yesterday morning.

The diver had been exploring the wreck of the former Gozo ferry Xlendi.

The search is particularly difficult because the Xlendi is at a depth of 45 metres and upside down. However, this is the first incident of this type near this wreck.

The missing diver had been in a group of four. Upon coming ashore his colleagues raised the alarm by asking a bird trapper to phone the authorities.
