Restoring Fort St Elmo
Frederick Galea (October 31) quite rightly highlights the shameful plight of one of our national monuments, Fort St Elmo.
I wonder whether a relatively simple solution would be to utilise the funds earmarked for the hare-brained scheme cooked up by the St John's Foundation, as well as any available grants from the EU to restore the fort. St Elmo can then be opened to the public as a museum, displaying the artefacts the St John's Foundation are planning to desecrate the Knights' burial chamber to put on show.

A restored Fort St Elmo would make an excellent international headquarters based in Malta, with the place also being open to Maltese and tourists alike. It is a museum in itself, and it should have various artefacts. Clean up St Elmo, make the necessary restoration works and lock it up for further utilisation.
Unfortunately, Fort St Elmo is too far away from St John's to act as an extension for the Museum of that Cathedral.

TOM readers may wish to note that the much needed and overdue clean -up at Lower Fort St Elmo commenced towards the end of last week.
