Strong increase in funds for illegal migration
The financial allocation for "third country nationals" (immigrants) under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Justice is to rise to €5 million next year from €932,000 this year, the financial estimates show.
The estimates were published with the budget speech yesterday.
A spokesman for the ministry said some of the funds will go for the recruitment of personnel but major refurbishment of Lyster Barracks detention centre is also planned.
Some of these funds previously used to appear under the estimates of the Ministry of Social Policy. The amount also includes the allocation to the AFM.

@ D. Borg.... Well Said Sir... I Agree With You 100%....
BESIDES these 5 Million Euro, these ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, have every other thing paid for by ALL OF US TAXPAYERS TOO.
Illegal immigrants got the best deal in the budget.
Shame on you ask for asking the Maltese to understand the international situation.
The way we are going it is not far off before we have a ministry in charge of this!!!
Instead of repatriating illegal immigrants.......Govt. will be putting a nice advert in preparation for next summer .... refurbishment of sites, free meals, free telephony, pocket money and all tax free services.
Thanks Mr. Minister for your contribution to this mess.......viva d deficit.
