Alex Borg has qualified for the knock-out stage of the IBSF World Snooker Championships in Austria after he trounced home player Sebastian Hainzl 4-0 yesterday.

It was another good performance from the Malta champion who knocked in breaks of 47, 114 and 73 to book his place in the last 64 of the tournament. With four victories from six matches, Borg has now secured second spot in Group H behind India's Pankaj Advani who has a perfect record so far.

Today, Borg plays his last group match when he meets Robert Trinbacher, of Switzerland.

Simon Zammit, Malta's other representative in these championships, lost his second match in the group, going down 4-1 to Kirk Stevens of Canada.

Zammit needs to win one of his last two matches to progress to the last 64. Last night, Zammit was due to face Austrian Manuel Urban (Austria) and today, he completes his group commitments against George Louca, of Cyprus.

In the Masters event, Tony Mifsud suffered his fourth defeat in five matches after losing 3-1 to Rocky Cribb, of New Zealand.
