Licences for yachts are to be increased, and the privatisation of the government marinas at Msida, Gozo and Ta’ Xbiex marinas will be completed next year, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said in the budget speech this evening. Sites for other marinas are being identified for 1,000 new berths and hardstanding facilities.

Studies are planned for development of cruise liner quays at Barriera Wharf and in Marsamxett. Boiler Wharf is earmarked for use by cruise liners as from next year.

Works will start next year on the inner quays of Grand Harbour where cargo is unloaded so that cruise liners can also be berthed there.

A heritage park is planned for the Upper Barrakka and the Menqa at Marsa will be regenerated.
