Roads programme announced
The government is to continue its major investment in arterial and local roads in the coming year, Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said today.
He said work would start on the Marsascala bypass and by 2012 the aim was to conclude works on Valletta Road in Zurrieq, Council of Europe Road and Garibaldi Street in Luqa, and a substantial part of the Bahar ic-Caghaq coast road, an underpass from Deceember 13 Road to Valletta Waterfront and the continuation of Mgarr road from the heliport to Victoria in Gozo.

How about doing Ta' Xbiex Coast Road, Ta' Xbiex with some proper tarmac and open the water culverts opposite the EU Commissioners' Office. It's a disgrace to Government and the Local Council too.

We always talk, comment and criticize the state of the roads here in Malta and Gozo but never say anything on the disastrous state of the pavements which incidentally can be used by cyclists.
When is this Governemnt going to do something good about the pavements as apart from being used by pedestrians, they can be used for parking of cars, for bins and other rubbish and have an incredible amount of different patched up concrete art?
So the young Minister is harping about this project?
I am amazed!

Everyone who damages his vehicle has a right to SUE the Government or the Local Council whichever of them is responsible for the maintenance of the road where the damage occurred. There have been many instances where the Government or the Local Council were ordered to pay damages for not keeping the road in a state of good repair. All it needs is for all the people who damage their vehicles is to SUE and not hold back.
So the answer is YES and SUE, SUE, SUE.

What about the rest of the moon-surface roads all over Malta?
Do we have to wait until the end of never for the other roads to be repaired?
When can we expect all our roads to be up to european standard?

Valletta Road, Zurrieq was also mentioned in the last year's budget for this year. Now it has been postponed to be ready by 2012 - You must be joking. It seems that all promises are there to be broken - including the tax cut promises - skuza tajba li tinheba wara l-problemi globali.

Will there be a fund for those people who damage their vehicles due to slippery roads or potholes?

Can someone please tell me what's the status of the roads programmes for 2007-2009 launched by former Minister Mugliett?? Are we going to repeat the same story here?
