I had given up on trying to determine by how much the electricity bills had actually increased, when Minister Austin Gatt handed me the answer on a plate. While speaking at the inauguration of a photovoltaic installation (October 30), Dr Gatt said that "the new electricity tariffs will halve the payback period of an investment in renewable energy equipment". This effectively means that the electricity tariffs have actually doubled. Couldn't he just have said it in simpler terms?
