The Island Sanctuary at tas-Silġ recently held an open day to celebrate the feast of St Francis and spoke about his love for animals.

Archbishop Paul Cremona celebrated Mass and spoke about his love for animals.

He said that at home his family always had pets which were strays including their dog Casper.

He also explained how ants and spiders used to fascinate him as he observed them during his relaxation time while studying to become a priest.

After Mass he was presented with the sanctuary's 2009 calendar as well as a painting made by a sanctuary volunteer.

Later, all pets were blessed.
