Post codes and beat codes
Ernest Causon (The Sunday Times, October 26) referred to marks appearing on a parcel on which Malta Post staff wrote 'CSP 02' when the postcode of the addressee is 'BML 1413'. 'CSP 02' is, in actual fact, the postman's 'beat code' and not the postcode.

'CSP 02' is, in actual fact, the postman's 'beat code' and not the postcode. A beat code is used by our delivery staff to distinguish between delivery areas, particularly when a postal article contains data (house name, street name, etc.) that may be confusingly similar with that of another address. The beat code serves to avoid mis-deliveries as each postman is allocated different beat codes.
Malta Post encourages the public to use the new postcode which helps to speed up mail delivery.
A postcode finder is available on Malta Post's website www.maltapost.com.
