Signal 8 Security Services Malta Ltd, sole representative of the International Bodyguard Association (IBA), is organising two courses in December: DART - defence and restraint tactics (December 3-5) and a master class in basic bodyguarding skills (December 5-10).

The IBA, an NGO, is the first organisation to offer this type of training. Its main objective is to train government officials, security guards and bouncers.

In the DART course, participants will learn self-defence, how to identify potentially dangerous situations, health and safety, the law of restraint applications, and how to react in difficult situations.

The master class will cover the six basic units of bodyguarding: the bodyguard team; counter-ambush drills; driving during difficult situations; the safe way to search for surveillance electronics and explosive devices; close quarter battle; and bodyguard paramedicine. At the end, participants will take part in a simulated exercise and be assessed. The course will be conducted by Jim Shortt, general director of the IBA.

Applicants must be aged over 18, physically fit, and possess a clean criminal record.

Those interested can call at Signal 8 Security's offices in Balzan or call 2141 3777 or 7920 0777. More information can be obtained from www.ibabodyguards.com.
