Arsenal suffered another shock Premier League defeat when they went down 2-1 at Stoke City, while Hull City pushed Manchester United all the way before losing 4-3 at Old Trafford.

Arsenal, stunned at home by Hull a month ago, became the latest team to fall foul of Rory Delap's long throws as they produced goals for Ricardo Fuller and Seyi Olofinjana in each half.

Despite a late goal by Gael Clichy, a miserable day for Arsenal was compounded by a red card for Robin van Persie and an injury for Theo Walcott.

Two goals for Cristiano Ronaldo seemed to have Manchester United in control as they led Hull 4-1 but the team who were bottom of the Football League 10 years ago fought back admirably to leave the champions hanging on at full time.

Chelsea made no mistake as they thumped Sunderland 5-0 at Stamford Bridge, helped by a hat-trick for Nicolas Anelka, while late goals earned wins for Everton and Wigan Athletic against Fulham and Portsmouth.

Leaders Liverpool were playing at bottom club Tottenham Hotspur later today.
