The government should change tack and give a helping hand to the economy by removing any unnecessary financial burdens on the public in Monday's budget, the Labour Party said.

MLP deputy leader Anġlu Farrugia called on the government to revise its proposed utilities tariffs to avoid putting any strain on industry and families. Regardless of the social partners' protestations, however, the government seemed adamant on imposing the high tariffs, Dr Farrugia observed.

He urged the public to participate in a national protest the MLP planned to hold, although no date has yet been set.
