Grove planned as memorial to Karl Chircop

The planned grove dedicated to the memory of the late Labour MP Karl Chircop should be full of flowers, reflecting his love for nature, his wife, Adriana, said.

Dr Chircop, who passed away last month, was an avid nature lover who spent many Sundays visiting nurseries, his wife said.

The young MP's love for trees and flowers could soon be reflected in a memorial which his colleagues and friends are planning to set up. The idea is to plant a tree grove in Dr Chircop's memory as a living tribute to a person whom they described as "special".

Chris Fearne, from the Malta Institute for Medical Education, said a number of sites will be identified but the final decision on the location will be left in the hands of Dr Chircop's family.

"We have received a very good response from doctors and are hoping that the public will follow suit," he said. Dr Chircop passed away in a London hospital on October 12 after 10 weeks in a deep coma following a cerebral haemorrhage.

A fund has been set up by the institute to collect contributions for the grove, which Mrs Chircop described as an apt memorial to her husband.

Donations towards the grove can be made either by sending a cheque to the Dr Karl Chircop Memorial Fund c/o MIME, Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta or making a deposit in BoV account number 40017670658.

More information about the fund can be requested by sending an e-mail to plantatree@maltime.com.
