The Church and the newly-appointed Opposition Leader shared the common vision of inclusion and social justice.

In his first official courtesy visit to Archbishop Paul Cremona at the Curia, in Floriana, Joseph Muscat said he believed in a society based on values that were not imposed and in mutual respect, even when disagreements existed.

Dr Muscat said he understood how the Church was facing challenging times caused by changing social realities, in which it had to make itself heard.

However, the Labour Party would still be "pushing for what it believed in".

Mgr Cremona said the Church had its own voice and believed in the common good, which could be a model for future generations.
