Last Sunday, the MLP spokesman on utility services, Charles Buhagiar, confirmed: "Gasco Energy Ltd, the company which will be taking over the Enemalta gas division, will be paying €1.9 million over 33 years as ground rent for a site in Bengħajsa where it will build its gas bottling plant, while it will receive €3 million over the coming three years for using the current gas bottling plant at Qajjenza". He added that the opposition agreed on the transfer of the gas bottling plant from Qajjenza to Bengħajsa but that the opposition voted against the resolution moved in Parliament last week.
Last year, on November 5 to be precise, the present Leader of the Opposition Joseph Muscat had shared his views regarding the Birżebbuġa/Qajjenza bottling plant.
In this very paper he wrote: "A new government can be pretty sure that I will be there to remind it that these families need to be respected and that the relocation should take place without further delay".
Can Labour decide what it wants? Where has Dr Muscat's respect towards the Birżebbuġa families gone to? Why has he suddenly decided that the relocation should not take place "without further delay"!
