A raid on illegal property earlier this week unearthed 22 vehicles, most of them without number plates, in two Nissen huts in Tarġa Gap, limits of Mosta.

The police are investigating the discovery made during enforcement action by the Government Property Division (GPD) on Wednesday after eviction notices were posted on structures there last Saturday.

Sources said that the GPD officials and the police on site noticed that the huts in question were closed. The police thus forced the doors open and found the vehicles.

The owner was traced through the number plates of two of the vehicles (the only ones with plates) and was interviewed by the police in order to find out what the vehicles were doing there.

The owner reportedly told the authorities that all the vehicles are his and the police are now in the process of inspecting documen-tation related to the vehicles, the sources said.

The action forms part of a campaign launched by the GPD against the illegal encroachment of public land. Eviction notices were affixed to buildings inhabited by squatters along the Victoria Lines in Dwejra, limits of Mġarr, giving them one week to evict before action is taken. Enforcement action has already been taken in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, Għajn Tuffieħa, Marfa and Valletta.
