I am directed to write with reference to the editorial entitled Homes Away From Children's Homes (October 28).

The Commissioner for Children included "looked-after children" as one of her main areas of action in the three-year work plan which was presented to the Social Affairs Committee of Parliament in 2007.

The project being undertaken aims to lay down the foundations for a national policy on looked-after children.

The project is currently entering into its second phase and is expected to be completed in 2009.

The Commissioner for Children remains committed to the promotion of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, whereby children should have the right to grow up within a family environment.
