Lecturers this afternoon voted overwhelmingly against a government pay offer and a proposed new collective agreement.

The president of the University of Malta Academic Staff Association, Victor Buttigieg, told timesofmalta.com that 176 lecturers voted against, two in favour after a three-hour extraordinary general meeting.

He said that the union will now be discussing the matter internally and then with the Malta Union of Teachers, with whom UMASA has joint recognition, to see what steps should be taken next.

During the meeting some of the lecturers voiced disappointment that in terms of the proposed collective agreement, they would be required to by available to give lectures up to 8 p.m.
