From Group A, Zammit registered a 4-2 win over Roger Dumortier, of France, in his first showing in the tournament. Zammit and Dumortier shared the first four frames before the Maltese won the next two to secure a 4-2 win.

Frame scores: (Zammit first) 80-38, 39-64, 87-43, 28-70, 72(54)-20, 74-37.

Referee Emeric Ellul was also in action yesterday when he controlled the match between Lee Page, of England, and Germany's Lasse Munstermann. Page won 4-2.

The highest break of the championships so far is a 138 made by Julian Logue, of Northern Ireland.

Borg plays France's Jean-Marc Beauchamp today and Zammit plays James Wattana, of Thailand.
