Police arrest Romanian wanted for human trafficking, paedophilia

A Romanian man wanted in his country to face charges of human trafficking and paedophilia was arrested at Malta International Airport last night and started undergoing extradition proceedings this morning.

Marius Vamanu, 31, did not contest the request made by the Romanian authorities through a European Arrest Warrant but denied the charges against him.

He is wanted for trafficking in human beings, the sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.

It is being alleged that he helped women, some of whom were minors, to travel to the Netherlands where they were promised jobs as dancers but were then forced into prostitution.

His arrest followed a tip-off to the police that he was about to board a plane for Dublin together with a female friend.
