Police arrest Romanian wanted for human trafficking, paedophilia

A Romanian man wanted in his country to face charges of human trafficking and paedophilia was arrested at Malta International Airport last night and started undergoing extradition proceedings this morning.

Marius Vamanu, 31, did not contest the request made by the Romanian authorities through a European Arrest Warrant but denied the charges against him.

He is wanted for trafficking in human beings, the sexual exploitation of children and child pornography.

It is being alleged that he helped women, some of whom were minors, to travel to the Netherlands where they were promised jobs as dancers but were then forced into prostitution.

His arrest followed a tip-off to the police that he was about to board a plane for Dublin together with a female friend.

Well said Mr Joe Frendo

The so called civilized world(Italy, UK) are a heaven for criminals.

Now Italy thanks to Berlusconi and Co, are getting tougher on crime sentences.

Traitors of law and order attract criminals and terrorists in their homelands from all the world.

As I always say, human rights as applied today will make our civilization just history.

@ Pierre Agius

Please be informed about the reality about justice in Romania. On accession or Romania to the EU (January 2007) many Romanian criminals left their country for Italy because they know that if they get caught in their country committing some criminal act, they will be jailed and they would have to spent all the sentence in jail. On the other hand in Italy (because of the Indulto and other similar laws) they can be free after some months of being jailed. So please inform yourself before condemning justice in other fellow EU countries.

If he didn't commit any crimes in Malta he couldn't be tried here, but extradited.

Lets protect ourselves by learning from past similar stories

Truly Well done Police Force! Zero tollerance for Human Traffickers and even worse paedophilia. It would, perhaps, be better if he were tried in Malta - I have very little faith in the justice system of Romania.
