An Archery Association of Malta selection, under the guidance of coach John Schembri and assistant Vince Pellicano, recently participated in a training camp at the Beiter Archery Centre in Dauchingen, Germany.

This venue is equipped with modern equipment and is frequented by international and Olympic athletes.

Archers participating in the training camp/competition qualified after a long selection process which started last July.

The participants were Luke Pellicano, Kevin Bonnici, Dion Buhagiar and Maria Formosa.

After completing the three-day camp, the Maltese team competed in an international indoor competition in Messkirch with an entry field of 221 archers. The tournament was a Double 18m event, consisting of two rounds of 30 arrows.

In junior Recurve, Pellicano finished first in his category and set a new national record with a score of 543.

Bonnici, in the Recurve division, produced a consistent performance to claim second place in his category with a score of 555, only five points behind the leader.

He also set a new national record for the distance.

Formosa placed second in the women's Recurve division, in her second outing in this category.

In the Compound division, Buhagiar also placed second with a score of 555, just five points adrift of the leading archer.
