Council condemns attack on mayor's husband

The Local Councils Association this afternoon condemned an assault which happened earlier today on the husband of St Venera Mayor Elisabeth Vella.

Meanwhile Gerald Sultana, 60, was arraigned in court and accused of having assaulted Mr Vella in his shop in Hamrun and slightly injured him. He pleaded guilty and was fined €233.

In a separate case, Akef Meji Werd, a 21-year-old Palestinian, today pleaded not guilty to stabbing and grievously injuring Abdulrzaki Albuashi, a Libyan, late on Saturday at City Gate.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000.
