Don't tell me that the thousands that were in the famous Korpi you are considering them gainfully employed. We are still paying for the thousands that made up the hidden unemployment of the late 70's and early/mid 80's.

@Jonathan Brimmer. Thanks for the information.
@H. Calleja. The thousands you're mentioning during the Labour governments were a pack of lies. Do you that student workers, apprentices and school leavers were included in those statistics by the PN propagandists at that time?

That's because we are used to taking Government statistics with more than a pinch of salt.

It baffles me how some believe all negative statistics but do NOT believe all that the positive ones. Funny but true.

Between October 2007 and September 2008, the Employment and Training Corporation removed 1,858 persons from its unemployment register. This may occur for a variety of reasons, largely relating to the fact that a person is found not to be truly ready and willing to take up work in the declared economy, or to attend an activation measure such as training or work placements. Data concerning strike-offs are provided to the media at regular intervals, most recently last week. This may be obtained from the ETC website (select ‘Media Releases’ on the left hand side tabs).

We knew that the unemplyment figures were true when under the Socialists' regime they used to reach ten to twelve thousands. Those days no matter how many were struck off the register, the figure was always that. But on the eve of the 1987 elections, 8000 were given a job with the hope that they would vote Labour!

And how many others are leaving abroad, especially young graduates.

What we're not told is how many were struck off the jobs register.
