Malta triathlon champion Dermot Galea, of Birkirkara St Joseph, won the 1485 Bosworth Duathlon, held recently in Leicestershire, UK, in record time. Competing in a high-profile field, Galea did well to outsmart his nearest rivals.
This duathlon, the last event in the British Triathlon Association calendar for 2008, consisted of a five-kilometre run, 20 kilometres cycle and another run of five kilometres.
Galea finished the first run in sixth place in 18:42 and his quick transition gained him two places to start the bike segment fourth.
After a few kilometres Galea had the race leader well in sight and both went on to finish their cycle together. Galea clocked 37:45.
Out for the final run, the Maltese was joined by Britain's Dan Clowes who opened a marginal gap but 500m from home Galea opened a powerful sprint, to which Clowes had no reply. Galea's final run was covered in 19:03. He won the race in 1:15.30, a course record by 3:30.
