Striker Amauri bagged his third goal in a week to give Juventus a 1-0 win over Torino in a hotly-contested Turin derby in Serie A last night.

The victory followed two league defeats on the bounce for Juve and further eased the pressure on coach Claudio Ranieri after Tuesday's 2-1 Champions League win over Real Madrid.

Amauri, who scored the second goal against Real having netted in the 2-1 defeat at Napoli the previous weekend, burst down the left channel early in the second period and his shot crept under Torino's stand-in goalkeeper Alex Calderoni.

The 28-year-old forward, signed from Palermo in the close season, has applied for an Italian passport and could soon force his way into Italy coach Marcello Lippi's plans having never played for his native Brazil.

"In my first derby, to score the winner is a dream. I am happy that Juve have returned to being the real Juve," Amauri told Sky television.

"Now we mustn't give it up."

Calderoni made a superb double save from Marco Marchionni in the first half while Juve keeper Alex Manninger, also filling in for the injured Gianluigi Buffon, had some nervous moments.

Juve defender Nicola Legrottaglie expertly flicked the ball off the line to maintain his side's advantage.

Surprise package Catania missed the chance to move top when they drew 1-1 at Siena, who should have won with striker Massimo Maccarone spurning a host of opportunities.

Emanuele Calaio put the hosts in front 15 minutes from time with a powerful header but the Sicilians were quickly level when Giuseppe Mascara converted a penalty after Michele Paolucci was tripped by goalkeeper Gianluca Curci.

Walter Zenga's Catania are second on 15 points, one behind leaders Inter, who host Genoa today.

Juve are bunched in mid-table on 12 points while Torino have five from eight matches and are one place above the drop zone.
