Intercontinental Malta is supporting Heritage Malta by participating in the HSBC - Hotel Heritage Scheme, launched by the HSBC Cares For Malta's Heritage Fund. During the summer months, over €4,000 was raised for the conservation and preservation of Ħaġar Qim.

Guests staying at the Intercontinental Malta are encouraged to make a voluntary contribution of €1 per room per night to be added to their hotel bill. This donation, deposited into an HSBC account, assists the funding of the conservation project.

Ħaġar Qim and other prehistoric temples in Malta are grouped by Unesco as World Heritage Sites. "Responsible tourism means doing our bit to put something back for the preservation of sites that we have enjoyed, for future generations to enjoy them too. Being a World Heritage Site, Ħaġar Qim belongs to each one of us, wherever we come from," said Marco Frik, the hotel's general manager.

"We are honoured to co-sponsor such an important site and to be a team player in contributing towards the conservation and enhancement of Malta's great history and heritage. This is in line with Intercontinental Hotel Group's corporate social responsibility."

Luciano Mulè Stagno, CEO of Heritage Malta, thanked Mr Frik for the hotel's cooperation and for partaking in such initiatives. "Heritage Malta is reaching out for active synergies with various entities to help in the continuous effort of supervising, preserving, understanding better and ultimately marketing Malta's historic sites. We encourage such collaborative efforts in order to implement across a wide range of conservation and interpretation ventures."
