Grannies - the best nannies
Would it not be wonderful if grandparents had the opportunity to stop working before they reach retirement age and receive a full pension so that they can enjoy their grandchildren and give their own children a helping hand while they are out working?

Wouldn't it be even more beautiful if parents can spend more time with their own children?
When we get older, we don't have the patience needed to educate children properly. And anyway, why have children if you don't have the time to enjoy them? Children are not real estate!

I fail to see why the government should pay a pension early just so the recipient could become available to look after grandchildren, I am a grandma and I look after my grand children when it suits me or when I am needed but I would never expect the government to pay me for that privilege.

How about people who for one reason or another have not had any children. Should they retire early as well or does Ms Demanuele want to create as two tier society where some people have to have a longer working life than others?

It would be really interesting to know how old the writer of this letter is.
If Mrs. Demanuele happens to be a grandmother, than I would leave it entirely up to her and her physical strength, how much she would like to give a helping hand.
If however Mrs. Degabriele is a mother, who - in spite of having children - LIKES (not must) to follow up her career, than let me quote my mother:
1) Grandparents have done their jobs to raise, control, teach and guide their children.
2) As a grandparent one finally has the personal pleasure of spoiling grandchildren rotten.
3) Nature knew exactly what it was doing when it invented menopause - since, as we grow older we lack the strength that we had in our youth.
4) Having children is a commitment for the next 20 years. It is a 24/7 job called housewife and mother - badly paid or recognized - but eventually greatly appreciated by your children.
5) grandparents always like to give a helping hand - however this should not be taken for granted.
The wording "Grannies- the best nannies", as the Times put it, sounds almost degrading - like cheap labour.
