Cyprus promised to help Malta put the EU's Immigration and Asylum Pact into action during meetings in Nicosia yesterday.

The recently-signed pact was discussed in two separate meetings attended by Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici, who met Cypriot Home Affairs Minister Neoclis Syliciotis and Justice Minister Kypros Chrsystomides.

They discussed the repatriation of immigrants, agreements between the EU and the countries from which the migrants originate and burden-sharing.

The ministers agreed the two countries were facing similar challenges with illegal immigration and needed to work together to push for the pact to be implemented.

E-justice was also discussed as the ministers touched on issues of security, the administration of justice and the police, while agreeing on cooperation.
