Updated: University denies late submission of results, teachers being reinstated
The University of Malta this morning denied that it was in any way responsible for the late submission of the results of resits taken by candidates who were subsequently engaged as teachers by the government.
The MUT had said that the teachers had been taken on as supply teachers instead of as regular teachers because their resit results were submitted late.
"Precisely because the results of the re-sit for the study unit in question concerned final year students, the assignments were corrected and results were submitted, recorded and forwarded to the relevant authorities well before the expected deadline," the University said.
"The Faculty of Education categorically denies that there was any academic or administrative incompetence by any member of staff in regards to this issue."
Meanwhile, the Malta Union of Teachers said today that it had received a reply from the Public Service Commission to its letter of 22 October 2008 regarding the termination of regular employment of the nine new teachers in state schools.
"The PSC has informed the MUT that the Commission has re-considered the particular case of the teachers in question in the light of certain clarifications of which the Commission was made aware today.
"In the light of these new clarifications, the Commission has agreed that the nine teachers in question should be declared eligible for appointment as teachers in State Schools."
The MUT thanked the PSC, the Ministry of Education and all those who had helped to find a just solution to the matter.

If we had to start a 'name and shame' campaign in Malta, there are plenty of other categories that we should start from!!!! Much more important and serious matters!

the Commission has re-considered the particular case of the teachers in question in the LIGHT OF CERTAIN CLARIFICATONS of which the Commission was made aware today.
What are these clarifications? This is diplomatic speech meaning someone made a blunder and we are reconsidering the mistaken decision that was taken. meanwhile whoever made that decision is free to continue with his job as if nothing has happened.

Justice has been done. No favours, no double standards, just plain good old-fashioned justice. Have a good week-end guys. You deserve it.
@PSC: good to know that you listened to reason.
As to the culprit, he should thank God he still has his job, after what he's put these teachers and their families through.
@the people who relish in other people's misfortune: what goes around comes around !!

Then WHO was responsible for these delays, Or is someone lying? Someone has to answer. No more going round and round and round. The buck has to stop somewhere! The Times should investigate this matter thoroughly. Somewhere there is the truth. Someone is lying. Let's name and shame these guys.
