Tignè Point’s twin-block office building will be ready in 2012.

Development company MIDI plc said the building, part of the mixed use project at Sliema’s Tigne peninsula, will have 16,000m2 of office space, much of which will be leased to companies operating out of Malta.

“There is a great shortage of purpose-designed office space in Malta ,” Ben Muscat, CEO at MIDI plc said.

“Demand has exceeded supply for some time now, as new media, software and gaming operations move into Malta. The right sorts of premises are just not available, especially in areas where people want to locate their businesses and actually work, like Sliema and St Julian’s for example where the few purpose-built office blocks that meet international requirements have long since been taken up. This building will have enough space for 800 people,” he said.

The building, in two sections linked by an atrium bridge that serves as the lobby for both, has been designed by aoM Partnership, the architectural team responsible for the entire Tigne Point project and for the restoration of the heritage buildings at Manoel Island.

It is managed in cooperation between the architectural practice of Professor Alex Torpiano, TBA Periti, and the Valletta-based Architecture Project. The office-specific design brief for this particular building was prepared by London-based office specialist GMW.
