A decision which will see the government providing the drug Hercepetin for free has been welcomed by the National Council of Women.

Hercepetin is an expensive drug which improves the chances of women with severe types of breast cancer.

The council said it supported the government's decision to make the drug available from next year. It pointed out that its insistent call for the provision of the drug years ago had been considered an impossibility, as the money could be put to better use elsewhere.
